Wideband, not narrowband
The standard narrowband sensor is only accurate around stoichiometric and tells you nothing at high load. A wideband sensor reads the whole range, and that is the only useful one when you are watching the engine at full throttle.
With or without the sensor in the box
Some gauges come with the sensor included, others do not. Check in the name. The sensor is a consumable: it wears out in a few tens of hours at high temperature and the readings get lazy before it dies completely.
What it does not replace
An AFR gauge does not stand in for a map. It gives you a warning when something has changed: an intake leak, a blocked injector, different fuel in the tank. The rest is the job of whoever maps it.
