What has to match
- PCD: the number of studs and the diameter of the circle they sit on (5x112, for example). Not negotiable.
- The centre bore: the middle hole. If the wheel has a larger bore, hub centric rings take up the difference; smaller will not go on.
- ET, the offset: how far the wheel sits out or in. It changes how flush the wheel runs with the arch and whether it rubs on lock or under compression.
- Width and tyre: every rim width takes a range of tyre widths.
If the offset is not exactly right
Small differences are made up with wheel spacers, and when the PCD differs there are PCD adaptors. Pick studs long enough for the thickness you add, and check at the end that the stud goes far enough into the nut. Weight matters more than it looks: a wheel one kilogram lighter at each corner is felt in the steering response and in braking, because it is unsprung mass.
