The diameter
The smaller the wheel, the heavier and the more direct the steering becomes. On a car without power steering, a very small wheel makes you pull hard manoeuvring in a car park. The diameter is written into the name of each product, in millimetres.
Flat or dished
A flat wheel leaves more space between it and your chest, good when you sit close to the dash or run a six point harness. A dished one brings the rim towards you, which helps when the seat is mounted low and far back. The dish is chosen by how you sit in the seat, not by how it looks.
It does not go on by itself
Between the wheel and the column goes a boss kit made for your car, and optionally a snap-off, which lets you take the wheel off to get into the seat more easily. See the boss kits.
Airbag and public roads
Fitting a sport steering wheel means, on most cars, that you lose the steering wheel airbag and the warning light stays on in the dash. On a track car that is normal. On a road car, remember that at an inspection the lit warning light gets seen.
