Coilover spanners
Coilover collars have notches, not a hex. Without the right spanner people end up with a screwdriver and a hammer, which chews the thread and after that you cannot adjust anything. The adjustable ones cover several diameters.
Degree wheel for camshafts
When you fit sport camshafts, the opening timing is checked and set on a degree wheel, not on the factory marks. It is the only method by which two identical engines come out the same.
Measuring clearances
Flexigauge and plastigauge measure the clearance between the bearing and the crankshaft journal, on assembly. It is done on every position, not by sampling, and it is not deduced from the figures on paper.
