Motorsport Transmission / Gearbox Oils

The gearbox and the differential ask for a different grade from the engine, usually 75W90 or 75W140. If you have a plate type limited slip differential, you need the version marked LS, with the additives for it. Torsen type differentials do not have that requirement, because they lock through gears, not plates.

The grade

75W90 is the usual choice for a gearbox. 75W140 is thicker when hot and makes sense in a differential, above all on a car that works hard on track.

LS, for plate type limited slip

If you have a plate type limited slip differential, you need the version marked LS, with the right additives. Without them, the plates judder in slow corners and you hear them. Torsen type differentials do not have this requirement.
