Plugin or universal
The plugin package goes into the original connector on the cars it covers, so the install takes hours, not days. On the rest you go with a universal unit and a loom built for the engine, which covers anything but needs someone who knows how to finish a wiring job. When your car is not on the plugin list, that is the road.
What the product does not give you
The standalone ECU comes without a map for your engine. The map is made on a dyno or on the road, by someone who knows the system, and it is a cost separate from the part. Without it, a standalone will start the engine, but it will not give it anything extra.
