The homologation expires
Every homologated seat has a date it is valid until, and after that it no longer passes scrutineering, however good it looks. The date is written into the product name where we know it, of the "Valid to 2031" kind. Check it before you buy, above all if you are planning several seasons.
Composite or steel
A composite seat is lighter and stiffer, so it passes on more of what the car is doing, but it costs more. A steel one is cheaper, heavier and more forgiving to fit. Both can be homologated; the difference is weight and price, not safety.
With or without head wings
A seat with side head support holds the head in long corners and is required by some regulations. On a car also used on the road, the wings can limit sideways vision more than you expect; try one before deciding.
What else you need
The seat does not bolt straight to the floor: you need a dedicated bracket and side mounts, and the homologation is required on the whole chain. See the dedicated brackets.
