Single or double opening
A single opening goes with a closed helmet. A double one, separate for the eyes and for the mouth, is made for an open helmet, where you need air and room for a microphone.
It has to sit tight
A loose balaclava creases under the helmet and leaves air between the material and the skin, and that air conducts heat. It is bought to size, not one up for comfort.
Washing
Cold, with no softener and no bleach. Any film left on the fibre changes how it behaves at high temperature, which is exactly what you do not want from this piece.
