How to read the name
Codes of the C114-5/76 kind say everything: 114 is the outlet diameter in millimetres, 76 is the inlet diameter. The inlet is measured on the cut pipe, with a caliper, not estimated by eye. One millimetre under and the tip will not go on; one over and it will not clamp.
Stainless or coated steel
A good part of them are stainless, brushed or polished. Stainless does not rust and does not stain in the hot area, so it looks the same after three winters of salted roads. Coated or painted versions are cheaper, but the coating gives up over time exactly where it gets hottest.
Straight or angled cut
An angled cut hides the end of the pipe better and works where the bumper has a small cutout. A straight one looks cleaner when the tip sits perfectly centred. It changes nothing about the sound, only how it sits in the bumper.
Fitting
The bolt on ones go on in a few minutes and can be changed any time. The weld on ones hold better and do not rotate over time, but they tie you to that part. However it is fitted, the tip is aligned with the car on its wheels, not on the ramp: on the ramp the rear hangs differently.
What it does not change
The tip brings no power and almost nothing in sound. The sound is made in the boxes, not in the last ten centimetres of pipe.
