Ghid de alegere si detalii
What they are for
A spacer moves the wheel further out, so it corrects an offset that is not quite right: the wheel runs flush with the arch, stops fouling the damper or the arm, and the track widens, which cuts body roll in a corner.
The two types
- Without studs, up to around 20 mm: they fit over the existing studs. They need longer studs or bolts, by the thickness you add.
- With their own studs, from around 20 mm: they bolt to the hub and take the wheel on their own studs. Mandatory above a certain thickness.
What to check
The PCD and the centre bore have to be the ones your car uses. The spacer has to sit centred on the hub, not just held by the bolts: otherwise you get vibration at speed. Check at the end that the stud goes far enough into the nut, and torque it to the figure in the manual, in a star pattern. After the first 50 to 100 km, check the torque again.
When the PCD is different
For going from one PCD to another there are PCD adaptors, which are different parts, not simply spacers. If you are fitting new wheels and you are not sure about the offset, pick the wheel with the offset closest to standard first and correct the rest with a spacer, not the other way round.
