Complete, front or rear
The complete kits replace the whole run and make up most of the collection. There are front only and rear only versions too, useful when you have already changed one end or when you have converted the calipers on one axle. The number of hoses differs from car to car, depending on how many wheels have discs and whether the line goes through a proportioning valve.
What you feel and what you do not
The pedal becomes shorter and more predictable, and the bite point is still the same on the tenth stop. It does not raise braking power on paper: what you gain is consistency, which counts for little in town and for a great deal on track.
What is not in the kit
Brake fluid and pads are bought separately. After fitting, the system has to be bled; if the pedal stays soft after bleeding, the cause is somewhere else, not in the hoses.
By the metre
Alongside the kits there is hose by the metre and AN fittings, for lines made to order. Those need crimping and measurements taken on the car, they are not chosen by car model.
