Who it is for
For a car driven every day whose stance and ride height you want to change once, properly, without going back to adjusters afterwards. It is also the sensible option when the original dampers are tired anyway: you replace them and lower the car in one job instead of two.
Against the alternatives
- Against lowering springs on the original damper: here the damper is calibrated for the shorter, stiffer spring, so the wheel stays on the road better and the assembly lasts longer.
- Against coilovers: you lose height and damping adjustment, you gain on price and on simplicity.
After fitting
Lowering takes the geometry out of spec. Book the alignment rig straight away, otherwise the tyres wear on the inside within a few thousand kilometres. If you have dropped it a long way, check whether you also need adjustable arms to bring camber back into tolerance. Check the top mounts and the bump stops as well: with a new kit on old rubber parts, the noise that turns up does not come from the new suspension, but from what you left underneath it.
