How they join the rest of the system
A bend replaces a curve you have no way of making without a pipe bender. Its radius matters: the tighter it is, the more speed the gases lose in the curve. Straight sections are bought by the metre from stainless pipe, and the clamps, flanges and gaskets sit in accessories and mounts.
Before you order
Check whether you are working on outside or inside diameter. At a joint, one millimetre of difference means an uneven gap and a poor weld. A 90 degree bend can be cut to the angle you need, so it also covers 30 or 45 degree joints, if you have enough to cut from.
Count the weld joints it leaves you with, too. Every extra joint is one more place gas can escape if the bead is not continuous. Two well chosen bends often do a better job than four short pieces stuck together.
