What is specific to Audi
On the transverse VAG engines, the downpipe climbs behind the block, past the bulkhead, and the space is tight. That is why the bends are mandrel bent, not pressed: a pressed bend loses section exactly in the curve, which cuts away precisely what you were trying to gain.
With or without a catalyst
Where a part has a sport catalyst, it is stated in the name. The rest are competition parts: without a catalyst the car is no longer legal on public roads. That is not a disclaimer, it is the information you need before you spend the money.
The diameter
Not everyone should take the biggest pipe. The diameter is chosen for the target power and for the turbo: too big on a nearly standard engine means a lazier pull out of a slow corner. The diameter is written into the name of each part, and the inch sizes read like this: 63 is two and a half, 76 is three, 89 is three and a half.
What it asks for after fitting
You will almost certainly need a remap. The back pressure changes, and the lambda sensor thresholds move with it; without adaptation you get fault codes and the engine goes into limp mode. If you run under a set of regulations, check what they ask for before you order.
What it does not cover
A downpipe only changes the section after the turbine. The rest of the system, the centre and rear silencers, stays as it is on the car, and if you want the whole system replaced that is another product. Some references include a centre silencer section as well, and then it says so in the name.
