How to choose
- Thickness. The manufacturer recommends 3 or 4 mm for drift and circuit, 4 mm for rally, where the regulations ask for a stiffer window, and 5 mm for heavier demands. Check the regulations of your competition before ordering.
- Mounting. The same window exists in several versions: some go into the original channels in the door, others are riveted or bonded, and a few are made for fibreglass doors. It says so in the title of each product.
- The side. Side windows are chosen left or right, from the option on the product page. The rear screen is a single piece.
- The slider. The slider version has a section that slides and locks, so you can put a hand out or let air through.
What you gain
- Polycarbonate is 1.2 kg per cubic decimetre, against 2.7 for glass. At the same thickness, the window weighs less than half, and the weight taken out sits high in the car, so the centre of gravity drops too.
- Once the window is fitted, the winding mechanism can come out.
- UV protection on both faces, so it does not yellow in the sun.
