A bonded aluminium chassis
The structure is made of extruded aluminium sections, bonded together. It is very stiff and very light, but it does not forgive improvisation: you do not weld it and you do not drill into it without knowing exactly what you are doing.
Toyota engines
The Elise S2 and the Exige were given Toyota engines, so on the engine side it is worth checking there too when you look for parts. On chassis and suspension, though, nothing from Toyota fits: those are strictly Lotus.
Braking, not as you expect
With the car this light, big discs do not help. What counts is the pad compound and the temperature it works at. A competition compound on a car that never heats it brakes worse than a road one.
