Motorsport Window Nets

A net stops an arm leaving through the window in a rollover and is used together with an FIA homologated seat. The 8863-2013 standard asks the front and upper mountings to take 10 kN with no more than 15 mm of deformation, so they mount into the structure, not into the door card. It releases from the driver's side, so you can get out yourself.

Mounting

The net attaches to the roll cage or to points welded into the structure, not to the door frame. It has to release quickly from inside, in one movement, and it has to cover the window opening on the driver's side.

The size

It is chosen on the real window opening, measured on the car. A net that is too small leaves a corner free, and at scrutineering that is exactly where the official looks.
