FIA Roll Cage Padding

Padding goes wherever the driver or co-driver can touch the cage with their head or shoulders, and that is where the scrutineer looks. The FIA 8857-2001 type A version is required in FIA competition and absorbs the impact, unlike ordinary foam, which only covers the tube. It is chosen on the diameter of the bar.

Where it goes

On the side pillars next to the head, on the bar above, and anywhere the helmet reaches when the body moves in the harness. Check it in the seat, with a helmet on, not from outside.

FIA compliant

Homologated padding is made to absorb energy, not just to be soft. The diameter has to match the tube: 44 to 50 mm covers most cages.
