The critical points
On the E30, the front arm mounting points and the subframe around them are the areas that crack. The plates are welded there, and the job is done before the crack appears, not after.
The rack limiter
It limits the travel of the steering rack, so it is not driven into its stop with force on a car with increased steering angle. It protects the rack and the track rod ends from the shock at the end of travel.
