The series we stock
- BR: the base series and the most widespread. Monotube damper, ride height set separately from spring preload, damping over 30 clicks.
- DS: the same construction, but with a piston calibrated to answer more firmly to the small movements of the body (roll, dive, load transfer) and to stay supple over impacts. You feel it in how settled the car is through a sequence of corners.
- RM: inverted monotube damper, for cars with MacPherson struts. It moves the damper mass higher up and takes the oil out of the hot zone around the brake.
- V1: the entry kit, meant for fast road and the occasional trackday.
- ER and HM: separate reservoir and independent adjustment for compression and rebound. Track solutions, on a small number of applications.
Spring rate
Many of the kits can be ordered in several spring rates, from 5/4 kg/mm on light cars up to 12/10 on track applications. A higher rate does not mean more grip, and it is the choice people get wrong most often.
Guide: which BC Racing series to pick and which spring rate: the difference between BR, DS, RM and V1, what the 30 clicks actually do, and how the rate is chosen.
The rate can be changed after fitting too, without buying another kit: the springs are sold individually in BC Racing Coilover Springs, from 2 to 24 kg/mm.
Fitting and setting up
Set the ride height with the car on its wheels and settled, not on the ramp. Once the height is fixed, have the alignment done on the rig. Damping is set last, starting from the middle of the range, a few clicks at a time and one axle at a time: otherwise you do not know what changed what. Do not confuse damping with ride height: if the car skips, the problem is in the damping or in the spring rate, not in the ride height.
