Electric or vacuum
An electric valve has its own motor and a remote, fits independently of the car and works anywhere. A vacuum one is operated from a solenoid and a vacuum reservoir and has no electronics to fail, but it needs a vacuum line and it moves more slowly. Electric is the simple choice on a car with no spare vacuum system already.
Valved silencer or separate valve
A silencer with an integrated valve replaces the rear box and comes set up from the factory. A separate valve is welded in anywhere on the system, on a bypass around the box for instance, and leaves you completely free in how you build the exhaust. The second option needs welding and a bit of thought, but it costs less.
The diameter
The valve is chosen on the diameter of the pipe it welds onto, written into the name in millimetres. It is measured on the pipe, not estimated from how thick the system looks.
What it does not solve
A valve brings no extra power over the same system without one. And it does not relieve you of responsibility on public roads. If the noise with the valve open is over the limit, the car is out of order from the moment you open it, even if you close it again.
