String alignment
A string kit gives you a straight reference around the car, against which you measure toe on each wheel separately. It is the method people work with in the paddock between runs and it is more precise than it looks, as long as you set the strings parallel to the axis of the car, not to the bodywork.
Corner weight scales
They show how many kilograms each wheel carries and how the weight is spread across the diagonal. It is the only way to balance a car that turns differently to the left than to the right. Weighing is done on a flat surface, with the driver in the seat and the fuel at the level it runs at.
Tyre pressure
A DIY gauge can be out by a few tenths, and those tenths of a bar change how the car behaves. A good gauge, with a bleed valve, lets you come down to exactly the figure you want once the tyre has warmed up.
Refuelling
Competition churns empty quickly and under control, with a hose and a vent, which matters when you refuel between runs. Check the regulations to see whether a particular type of churn is required.
Suspension spanners
Spanners in two sizes cover most coilover collars. Without them people end up improvising with a screwdriver and a hammer, which chews the thread and after that you cannot adjust anything.
