MTS Technik Lowering Springs - Opel ADAM (M13) - MTSXOP159
Lowering springs are the most direct way to close the gap between tyre and arch and sharpen the way the car handles. They are shorter than the factory springs and stiffer in compression, and they fit straight onto the dampers already on the car. Because they take lateral load better, body roll through a corner drops and the steering feels firmer.
Fitted to an Opel, they drop the car by 35 mm at the front and 30 mm at the rear.
Technical specifications
- Front axle lowering: 35 mm
- Rear axle lowering: 30 mm
Technical notes
- With extra factory equipment such as a tow bar or an LPG system, the actual drop can differ from the figure quoted.

Frequently asked questions
Will the car lose comfort?
Bumps come through more firmly, but progressive springs still absorb well on smooth roads.
Will they destroy the original dampers?
If the dampers are already worn, the shorter stroke will finish them sooner. If they are new or in very good shape, they will work fine.
How much does the car drop?
The exact figures are listed (for example 30mm). Cars that already have the factory sport package drop less than the quoted figure.
Does the geometry need setting afterwards?
Yes. Lowering always changes the toe angles.
Will the tyres wear unevenly?
Only if you skip the 3D alignment after fitting.
Do they need a mechanic to fit?
Yes. The springs are under load and compressing them needs proper tools. Doing it at home risks serious injury.
Do the top mounts need replacing too?
We recommend new top mount bearings, otherwise you get knocking when the wheel is turned on the spot.
What is a dust protection kit?
The rubber gaiters. They go on with the springs and keep dirt off the damper rod.
Can I still get over speed bumps?
Yes, but take them slower so the sump does not touch down.
Can they be homologated?
MTS Technik products generally come with TUV documentation. TUV is a German certificate; check what your own country requires before you buy.
Can I fit springs on the front only?
Strongly advised against. The balance of the car goes, and it turns into dangerous oversteer.
Will the tyres rub the arches?
Not on the original wheels and offset. With wide aftermarket wheels the arches may need work.
Will they creak over time?
Many springs carry silicone sleeves on the end coils exactly to stop metal-on-metal noise.
How do they hold up against corrosion?
They are powder coated, which is what makes them last.
What does 40/30mm mean?
The front axle drops 40mm and the rear 30mm, which gives the car a nose-down rake.
Do they affect the driveshafts?
An extreme drop changes the driveshaft angle, but a drop within the range the manufacturer quotes is fine for normal use.
Do they settle further over time?
Good spring steel does not sag much, but the suspension settles slightly over the first few hundred kilometres. That is normal.
Can I fit them on sport dampers?
Yes, they work with uprated aftermarket dampers.
Is there a warranty?
Yes, the manufacturer covers defects in material and workmanship.
Can I tow a caravan with them?
Towing heavy loads on lowered suspension is not recommended: the front axle can go light.
