Ferritic chromium stainless steel wool is wrapped around the perforated tube of an absorption muffler, so the exhaust gas cannot blow the fibre packing out. It is rated to about 1200 degrees.

Where it goes
- As a wrap on the perforated tube, under E-glass or basalt packing.
- As filling in the chambers of performance mufflers.
- Roll length varies with how tightly it is wound, so the wool is sold by the kilogram, not by the metre.
