A spin-on oil filter has pleated synthetic-blend media that removes most harmful contaminants, and it works with synthetic, conventional and blended oils. The K&N filters here have 3/4-16, M20 x 1.5, M22 x 1.5 or 13/16-16 threads, for cars and for motorcycles.
How to choose
- Thread: it must match the thread of the filter you are replacing. It is not the only dimension: the outside diameter and the height matter too.
- Diameter and height: on the car filters the outside diameter is between 68 and 94 mm. The height is in the table of each filter.
- Valves: most filters have a bypass (relief) valve, with an opening pressure between 8 and 17 psi depending on the model, and an anti-drain back valve. The HP-2002 has no valves and the HP-2006 has no bypass valve.
- Removal: the canister has a welded nut: a 1 inch hex nut on the car filters and 17 mm on the KN-303 motorcycle filter, so it comes off with a wrench.
