Buying guide and details
The parts of a system
An intercom means an amplifier, a headset with microphone for each person and the loom that joins them. They can be bought separately too, which is useful when you add a second station or replace only the headsets.
Full face or open face
With a full face helmet you go with in-ear headsets and a microphone mounted inside. With an open face helmet you use ear defenders with a boom microphone. The kit is chosen for the helmet you have, not the other way round.
Connectors, where people go wrong
Nexus connectors come in male and female versions, and the cable and the amplifier have to be complementary. Two good parts with the same connector will not join, and there is no universal adaptor. Check in the name what kind of connector each part has.
Wired or wireless
A wired system is reliable and has no batteries to charge, but it ties you to the car. A wireless one, such as the Stilo WL-10, gives you freedom in the service park and is simpler to move from one car to another. It costs several times more, though.
