Buying guide and details
A magnetic plug replaces the drain plug in the oil pan and holds back metal filings from the oil with a magnet. Choose by the thread of the original plug, from M12x1.25 to M20x1.5. Brands: QSP, OBP, Mishimoto, Racingline and Skunk2.
How to choose the thread
According to Mishimoto, the drain plug thread is:
- M12x1.25 on most Toyota and Nissan models;
- M12x1.5 on most BMW models from 1981, on Mercedes-Benz up to 1985 and on the Porsche 912E and 914;
- M14x1.5 on most Honda, Mitsubishi and Mazda models;
- M16x1.5 on Peugeot, Renault, Mini Cooper from 2007 and some Subaru models;
- M20x1.5 on most Subaru models.
There is no car list for M12x1.75 and M18x1.5. Always compare the thread with the original plug: a plug with a different thread will not tighten into the pan.
VW Group engines, Honda and transmissions
Racingline has plugs for the plastic oil pan of EA888 Gen3 and Gen3B engines (True-Lock), for the metal pan, and sets for the differential and Haldex. For Honda, Skunk2 has a set of two M14x1.5 plugs, for the engine and the manual gearbox.
