On the Golf 7 the rear axle follows the engine: front wheel drive cars up to 122 PS have a torsion beam, above 122 PS and every 4Motion have multilink. That decides which arms and bushings fit, not the registration year.

Choose by generation, not by model

On the Golf, the difference between Mk5, Mk6, Mk7 and Mk8 matters more than the name, because mountings and dimensions change from one platform to the next, and that is exactly why the vehicle filter works on generation. The same parts often fit Audi, Seat and Skoda: the platform is shared, the badge is not.

The rear axle, the classic trap

On the Golf and its relatives, the same generation was sold with both a solid rear beam and multilink, depending on engine and trim. The bushings, the arms and part of the suspension kits differ between the two. Look under the car before you order rear axle parts. One transverse beam means torsion beam, several separate arms mean multilink.
