Who it suits

The approval in the rules
  • Where an FHR is mandatory (circuit, hill climb and rally special stages on the FIA calendar), the 2026 Appendix L accepts FIA 8859-2015, 8859-2024, 8860-2010 and 8860-2018 helmets (Chapter III, Art. 1.1)
  • FIA 8859-2024 helmets are listed in FIA Technical List no. 107
  • Snell SA is not in FIA Technical List no. 25, so in FIA events the FIA label is what counts. In CIK-FIA karting, over 15, SA2020 is accepted and SA2025 only on helmets that also carry the FIA 8859-2024 label
  • In the FIA lists, the homologation end date is the last date the model may be manufactured; the helmet stays valid as long as its homologation label says
  • Appendix L caps the helmet at 1900 g for full face and 1700 g for open face, accessories included, and a camera or a visor not approved by the FIA voids the approval (Art. 1.4 and 1.5)
Choosing the size
  • Head circumference is measured with a tape about 2.5 cm above the eyebrows at the front, and at the point at the back that gives the largest reading
  • Take several measurements and keep the largest; if you wear a balaclava, measure with it on
  • On the head, the helmet should sit low on the brow with uniform, firm pressure all around and no pressure points (Bell's fitting rule)
