Billet Driveshaft Center Support Bearing for BMW E36 / E46
This rigid driveshaft center support bearing for the BMW E36 and E46 is billet-machined and replaces the stock support. The stock one holds the shaft through a thin layer of rubber: it damps vibration, but under load it does not support the shaft well enough, and over time the rubber becomes brittle and cracks.
Specifications
| Car | BMW E36, E46 |
| Manufacture | billet-machined |
| Mounting | rigid, no rubber layer |
| Code | CNC71-SPW-E346 |
Effects in use
- According to the manufacturer, throttle response is more direct.
- Gear changes are firmer and more precise.
- Vibrations caused by shaft misalignment or rubber degradation are reduced.
Installation notes
- First check that the differential has not shifted: the condition of its bushings and, with aftermarket ones, that they keep the factory position.
- Press the bearing onto the shaft with a 38 mm sleeve or pipe, striking only the inner race of the bearing so you do not damage it.
- If the bearing gets damaged or worn, the service holes let you choose a tool for replacing it.
- Check that the driveshaft turns freely by hand, both during installation and after it is finished.
- Loosen the engine mounts, the differential mounts and the shaft support, then turn the shaft by hand while gradually tightening everything. The shaft support is tightened last.
- A balanced driveshaft is a good complement to the setup. If the whole system is stiffened (aluminium bushings), a new factory flex disc (guibo) is recommended instead of aluminium or polyurethane replacements, for the longest gearbox life.
