Straight Silicone Coupler 51 mm (2 in) Let's Race
A straight coupler joins two pipes of the same diameter end to end and lets the joint move: the engine rocks on its mounts, and the silicone takes up the play instead of a rigid connection. The inner diameter is 51 mm, that is 2 in, and the length is 7.6 cm.

Where it goes
- Between two pieces of pipe of the same diameter, on the intake or the intercooler piping.
- As a sacrificial part where the piping vibrates: a coupler is easier to replace than a welded pipe.
- On the cooling circuit, at the joints between the radiator, the pump and the block.
- Not for petrol, diesel or oil under pressure. Silicone handles fuel vapour and traces of oil, not liquid fuel: the fuel circuit uses hoses with a fluorinated inner layer.
When fitting
- The pipe the coupler goes on must be clean and free of burrs. A rolled bead on the pipe end keeps the joint in place when the pressure rises.
- On boosted engines use wide band clamps or T-bolt clamps. A worm drive clamp cuts into the silicone and lets the coupler slide off the pipe.
- Do not stretch the coupler to bridge a gap between the pipes: both pipe ends must sit inside it, otherwise the joint stays under tension all the time.
