Who it suits

The approval in the rules
  • Under 15, the 2026 CIK-FIA technical rules require a Snell-FIA CMR2016 or CMS2016 helmet, and a CMR helmet may still be worn after 15 with no limit (Art. 7.1)
  • If head circumference is over 59 cm, a driver under 15 may wear an adult helmet weighing no more than 1500 g
  • FIA 8859 and 8860 car racing helmets are also accepted in karting, but the M6 HANS anchorages cannot be used there (CIK-FIA 2026, Art. 7.1)
Choosing the size
  • Head circumference is measured with a tape about 2.5 cm above the eyebrows at the front, and at the point at the back that gives the largest reading
  • Take several measurements and keep the largest; if you wear a balaclava, measure with it on
  • On the head, the helmet should sit low on the brow with uniform, firm pressure all around and no pressure points (Bell's fitting rule)
