Before you order

  • RRS presents the kit for saloon cars, in its installation manual. Before you order, check in the competition regulations that FIA list 16 is accepted and that your car falls into this category.
  • The kit is not homologated for vehicles running on alcohol-based fuels.
  • Service is mandatory every 2 years, at RRS or at an approved RRS reseller. After every use, recharging is done there too.
  • The parts of the kit must not be modified or replaced with others, otherwise the homologation is lost. Only RRS parts are used as replacements.
  • The version with electric release is the FIA electric extinguisher 4.25L RRS Optifirex.
  • Other fire extinguishing systems and extinguishers are in the FIA homologated extinguishers collection.
Installation notes
  • The bottle is mounted on the car's centre line, with the valve towards the rear, so it works properly even if the car rolls over. The label and the pressure gauge must stay easy to read.
  • The two brackets are fixed firmly to the floor.
  • The inner control cable is fixed within reach of the driver and the co-driver, and the outer one at the base of the windscreen pillar.
  • The cables are routed with as few bends as possible, with a little slack at the cable stop next to the valve lever. Their condition is checked regularly.
  • Fit 2 nozzles under the dashboard, pointing at the driver's feet (and the co-driver's, with a crew of two), and 4 nozzles in the engine compartment. Fixing the nozzles matters: they do not rest on the aluminium tube.
  • The tubes are cut with a tube cutter and deburred. The fittings are quick-connect: push them in up to the clip and check the connection. To disconnect, push the plastic ring while pulling on the tube.
  • The fittings do not rest on the aluminium tube. The tube and the fittings are fixed to the car.
Check before the race
  • Before every competition outing, the safety pin of the extinguisher is removed.
  • The bottle pressure is checked visually: the gauge needle must be in the green zone.
  • The minimum discharge time of the extinguisher is 25 seconds.
  • Nozzles, fittings, tubes and the bottle are visually checked from time to time, and the control cables are greased.
